Why is Council considering installing CCTV cameras at Helensburgh Library?
CCTV cameras have been installed in the majority of our libraries to promote a safer and more liveable environment. It’s now Helensburgh’s turn to have the cameras installed
What governs the use of CCTV?
Council has a CCTV Policy which is designed to operate as a Code of Practice. The Code of Practice has been developed in consultation with NSW Police.The Policy emphasises Council’s commitment to ensuring the privacy of individuals is protected, ensuring cameras are used for their designated purpose and rights of individuals are protected.

Where will the CCTV cameras be located?
Two CCTV cameras will be installed outside of the library. Three CCTV cameras will be installed inside the library covering the study area and photocopier, the circulation desk, computers and the youth and children’s areas.
Who will have access to the CCTV film?
Footage will generally be retained for no less than 21 day and will then be deleted unless identified as containing an incident. In this case the film will be kept for Court proceedings.
