Alcohol Free Zones - Proposed Re-establishment

Council’s Alcohol Free Zones (AFZs), located in the suburbs of Helensburgh, Thirroul, Corrimal, Wollongong, Dapto, Warrawong and Berkeley, are due to expire in September this year.

All AFZs within the Wollongong Local Government Area have a four-year term that will expire on 30 September 2018. This survey aims to seek feedback and gain an understanding about community support for these AFZs.

The consumption of alcohol on roads and footpaths within a declared Alcohol Free Zone is an offence under the Local Government Act. Enforcement is by way of confiscation of alcohol and subsequent prosecution, undertaken by New South Wales Police officers.
